Coworking Member Spotlight – Ellen Morrison

Ellen Morrison – Psychotherapist

Introducing Ellen Morrison, a valued member of our Markham Hive community. When Ellen needs to have an in-person meeting, she books our private office space in Markham to meet with her clients. If you’re in search of a private office to accommodate your wellness clients, you’ll find beautifully furnished wellness offices available at all three of our convenient locations: Markham, North York, and Midtown Toronto.

Let’s get to know Ellen a little better!

Tell us about your profession or your business. What type of clients do you serve?

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). My clients are people who have found they have a recurring behaviour that is preventing them from feeling 100% or interfering with their daily life. This can be an anxiety, a concentration on negative thought, a feeling of loss. This can also occur in relationships with couples. They can find that they have developed a pattern of relating that is disrespectful, uninterested, damaging to the relationship and happiness of each person in the relationship, and the relationship overall.

What’s a valuable lesson you’ve learned recently?

Therapy is a huge step for people, and the pace needs to be slow. I have learned to not expect people to move quickly through therapy. Habits take time to undo, and people need the time to adjust their ways of thinking and perceiving what they have experienced. They need time to learn new ways of dealing with challenges they are experiencing.

What is one of your favourite books/movies?

The Holiday is one of my favourite movies. One theme in the movie is the difficulty of removing oneself from a relationship in which one person controls the relationship to the disadvantage of the other. This can be in a narcissistic relationship, with the controlling person disregarding the other’s feelings, and love. In The Holiday, the main characters remove themselves from controlling relationships, and find support from friends who help them see their value. Their confidence, and their outlook about themselves is restored. The movie shows in a theatrically realistic way that this does not happen automatically, and the characters improve their confidence and ability to see their value, and the detrimental aspects of the relationships over time.

What do you do at The Village Hive? What is your favourite thing about the Hive? Why did you join the Hive?

I joined The Hive in order to meet my psychotherapy clients in a private office. Joining The Hive provides the ability to book the office on an ‘as needed’ basis. The location of The Hive is excellent for clients to be able to find. I like older buildings and find this one
to be rather nice.
